I am the son of one of the original claim holders on Petersen. I started in the mineral business in the early 90s, then pursued a different path in the fire service for a couple of decades, and am now happy to be back playing with pretty rocks in my retirement. :-)

I work directly with / am associated with one of the 2 commercial claims on the top of the mountain. As such you can rest assured that my Petersen crystals are top quality,up to museum grade, coming from the well protected virgin banks that can only be accessed with heavy equipment.

NO. All of the crystal bearing ground on Petersen - all the way out to 395 - is privately claimed. Collecting without permission of the claim holder is not allowed and is ILLEGAL (criminal mineral theft). The claim holders on Petersen are not some faceless mining corporation; they are all just working class folks trying to make a go of it in the mineral business. Please respect the time, hard work and money they have sunk into their claims. Besides, you'll be able to buy better pieces from me or another legitimate dealer than you would likely find yourself anyway, and probably for less than the cost of gas to go out there. :-)
There are a great many claim holders on Petersen; I know some of them, if you email me I can try to put you in touch with the right person (no promises though).
Yes! I am located in Reno, NV; and I have a space in Nevada Marketplace in Reno Town Mall (kiddie corner to the Atlantis), I have supplied jewelry to Body Jewelry Company in Meadowood Mall, artwork (dragons on matrix) to Games Galore also in Meadowood Mall, and supplied crystals to Crystal Palace, Cabin Creek Crystals and Stone Age Quarry in Reno (SAQ also has a location in Virginia City). I am also happy to arrange in person pre-sale inspection of any piece in the Reno, NV area, schedules permitting. I also do gem and mineral shows, my next one is coming up March 5-6 at The Great San Francisco Crystal Fair in San Francisco at the County Fairground Building on the edge of Golden Gate Park!
